Sending birthday cards is a very recent tradition which is said to have begun in the UK just over 100 years ago. These first birthday cards were sent as an apology for not being able to attend a birthday celebration. Nowadays millions of cards are sent around the world each year to wish family and friends happy birthday.
There are all sorts of different designs of birthday card, from loving and sentimental cards to funny and humorous cards. They can have hand drawn or painted scenes or pictures, or various kinds of photograph, and cards can be embossed, have foil or glitter decoration, or a 3D design for extra pizzazz. With the invention of the internet a number of companies have made it easy for people to create their own designs and to have these printed as a truly personal greeting or birthday card.
Birthday Cards are an important means of communicating good wishes and love to a person. They carry a personal touch that makes them endearing and very special and emotionally charged cards help to convey feelings of love that most people find difficult to express.
